Had a bit of a camera clear out…
In an event to continue the legacy of Hull’s City of Culture status, Urban Legends: Northern Lights (back in December 2018) had various illuminated installations around the city centre. Some told tales that brought giant, fantastical creatures to life on the walls of our museums. Others carpeted pedestrian areas in an ever-changing kaleidoscope of asymmetric patterns, or lit our landmarks in an array of bright colours.
Then there were a few that were just plain…odd. Like the talking mermaid and the ice queen propped up in shop windows and looking like bad fairground freak-show attractions. But you can’t win them all! Fortunately, I was too short to get close enough to them, so you’re saved from the disturbing images!
Hello everyone, hope you are all well!
Today, I bring you my final post before Christmas (and incidentally my 200th offering!), and the last WoW (not the RPG game) of the year. I’ve really enjoyed doing these collections over the last year and hope you’ve enjoyed reading them…because I’m continuing int0 2017!
Naturally, some inclusions have gone a little festive this time but there are plenty of other gems I’ve discovered whether you love or loathe the C-Day. So take some time out from the wrapping, put your feet up with some mulled wine and enjoy Web of Wonder 8!! 🙂
People I know with December birthdays tend to get a little uppity about their limelight being stolen by a certain other, late in the month, celebration that seems to encroach on their fun. Sam is no exception to this rule, stating that no C-word related shenanigans can take place until after the 13th… which is fair enough. I’d totally have a tantrum if the attention wasn’t firmly on me!
So I thought I should make an effort to bake him a cake – something we realised I’d never done for him before. When it comes to cakes, he’s all about chocolate, the more the better. But for his ultimate dessert, we have to have a throw-back to the 80s. We’re talking the quintessential powerhouse dinner party menu of the time: prawn cocktail, steak and finished with a large slab of Black Forest Gateau.
But as it’s Christmas and I rarely stick with run-of-the-mill, I thought I’d try my hand at a roulade version of a BFG (see…the title always makes sense eventually!)
Steve was kind enough (or daft enough!) to invite me back to write another guest post. Not done your Christmas shopping yet? Maybe these extravagant little items will give you some ideas…like how the other half lives!
Thanks for letting me ramble Steve 🙂 (Whilst you’re over there reading my waffle, check out his other posts too!)
A ‘Bling’ Cosby Christmas Unless they’ve just stepped out of a Dickensian novel, most who celebrate Christmas will be hoping for a little more than an orange or (far worse) a piece of coal in their stockings this holiday season. Because let’s face it, Chrimble these days is a very commercial affair, with every outlet […]

Did you know you can follow the Bobbins on Twitter , Instagram or Facebook? Come and say hi!
Had to share this little video with you all, it’s been around a while but I’ve only just seen it! So sweet in itself, it also is a wonderful reminder that there are some fabulously talented folk out there!
I might be back to a more regular posting schedule next week with some obligatory, end of year round-ups, although I do intend on posting somewhat differently in the new year.
So until then, I hope tomorrow, December 25th, turns out exactly as you want, whatever and wherever you’re celebrating.
Must go, I’m sure I can hear hooves on rooves…
(It’s an Old English plural, shush now!)
