Wednesday Lensday: POPpy ART

Wednesday Lensday: POPpy ART

Queen Victoria Square, in the city centre of my home town, Hull, has become quite the location recently. Since the start of our City of Culture year, it has housed various attractions, including the light show to kick off the celebrations and ‘The Blade‘ – built in the city and the largest man-made single piece structure in the world (and I swear it’s not photo-shopped in!)

However, the most recent offering is a touring collection of ceramic poppies – you may be familiar with them cascading from the Tower of London as part of the ‘Blood Swept Lands and Seas of Red’ exhibition, commemorating World War 1. And now we are privileged to look after them for a few weeks as they tour around the UK.

Wednesday Lensday: Medieval Meanderings

A couple of weekends ago, we decided to visit the Royal Armouries in Leeds. Not only is it a fabulous, free museum packed full of weaponry and armour dating back from Anglo-Saxon times to modern day, but it is situated down by the river, which allows for some nice photography.

Wednesday Lensday: New Year, New (Ca)ME(ra)

I took my new little Sony CyberShot out for a walk along the beach, just after Christmas, so that I could get a first feel for it.

Have to say, I do enjoy having an actual zooming lens back despite so far only really using it on auto settings. The camera has plenty of functions I can play around with over the next few weeks though – just have to not fall back into lazy ways!

A Hull of a week…

A Hull of a week…

‘So sick, so sick of being tired and oh so tired of being sick…’

2017 has not got off to the greatest start from a health point of view, in fact we didn’t even manage to see the New Year arrive! Stricken down with ‘flu over Christmas, it is still refusing to let go of the family and has even put one of us temporarily in hospital. Sigh.

But, despite being the living embodiment of a line from a Taking Back Sunday song, there are far too many exciting things going on in our neck of the woods at the moment, so I’m forcing myself out of bed!

You may remember last year when I wrote this post, Would you…Go ‘blude’? about a mass naked artwork being created for my home town in preparation for it becoming UK City of Culture 2017.

Wednesday Lensday: Looking back at 2016 snaps!

Wednesday Lensday: Looking back at 2016 snaps!

It is Wednesday, right? I get ever so confused when I’m not at work and it’s this in-between holiday period!

As was lucky enough to get a new camera for Christmas (a Sony CyberShot),  I thought I’d look back over some of my favourite photos I’ve taken in the last year with my iPhone… although I’m sure they won’t be the last ones I’ll take with it, it’s so flippin’ convenient!

I’ve wanted a new ‘point and shoot’ device for a while (much to Sam’s dismay) because I’ve just never really got on with the DSLR, admittedly being too lazy to master the controls and finding it too cumbersome for my little fingers. Yet, as much as I love using my iPhone (and I’m happy with the results), there are just some things you can’t do with it, so hoping my new present will bridge the gap.

Many of these snaps you’ll have seen, although some were Instagram only entries. All were taken this year and each one I hope you enjoy looking at again. They’ve certainly helped to remind me that there have been some good parts to a pretty awful year for most. Keep smiling and stay positive everyone. 🙂
