I could never edit for Peter Jackson…

I could never edit for Peter Jackson…

Well it’s here… the VLOG!

Whose bright idea was it to do this? Oh yes, that would be me…

Hmmm. I wanted it to be ready before now but, well, here’s a few things I’ve learned about me vlogging:

  • I talk too much.
  • I talk too fast.
  • I say ‘SO’ a lot.
  •  And ‘Erm’…
  • I look at my face rather than the camera.
  • I probably shouldn’t have balanced the camera on a cushion.
  • Usable footage is about 1/5 of what was filmed.
  • Editing is a nightmare.
  • My hair annoys me…
  • …but not as much as technology!

It’s also too long in my opinion – I’ll totally understand if you don’t have time to watch it – but I didn’t want to leave any questions out and like I said, I waffle! Maybe I should have split it across a trilogy and released an episode a year…

I still had fun doing it though and the main reason for it was to say thanks to you lot for reading / commenting and basically sticking around and making me feel it’s all worthwhile. 🙂

Therefore, here’s a big list (in no particular order) of everyone who commented on the announcement posts, whether you asked a question or not – please go check each other out because you’re all awesome for many reasons (obviously… you read my stuff!)

And I’d love to hear any comments on the vlog – I can take it… I think! 😉 Thanks for reading (and watching)!

    1. Thanks Manvel! It’s nothing fancy, only Movie Maker that generally comes as standard with Windows on PC. Although I prefer to use iMovie for ease of use. 🙂

      1. If you use the ‘make movie’ feature in iMovie, you can drop in any footage and add captions/ animations etc. Some entire films have been shot on an iPhone and edited using iMovie!

  1. *standing ovation* OH my! There are so many things I love about your first EVER vlog. Firstly, may I say how truly adorable you are. And your accent! I love it! (Proper Yorkshire you!

Secondly, congrats on your blogging anniversary! Yay! 🎉🎉🎉

And thirdly, I wanted to say that you did a great job on your vlog. You’re an absolute natural.

Also, you’re a girl after my own heart. I mean, I didn’t dress up as a geisha, but I did make Ouija boards as a kid and tried to communicate with the dead *scared face*. My mum also kept my first pair of shoes (as well as all my milk teeth) and giiiiirl… You surpassed my 16 minutes! High five to that! That deserves a cup of Yorkshire tea and a cheeky biscuit.

As commenters have said before me, More please!!! 📽

    1. Haha, yes I’m Yorkshire and proud! And I’m definitely always up for a cheeky biscuit and a brew (I’m very rock and roll!)
So pleased you enjoyed it though, thanks for sitting through the epic waffling – but I really think people should be telling me to shut up not encourage more. You’ll have all made a rod for your own backs when the next installment surpasses the run time of Gone with the Wind! I might serve ice-cream in the interval though if you’re lucky 😉

      1. Well, I’m always up for ice cream! Hehe. And is that a yes to a future vlog? *excited face*

Honestly though, it was great! The editing and your waffling… I meant, vlogging 😉

      2. Hahaha, it’s a ‘We’ll see’! I’m sure you can gang together with some of the others and cajole me into it. You’ll all have to come up with the subject matter or I might be forced to sing…

      3. Well, in that case, I’ll make it my mission! If I can gather enough troops, we can turn “we’ll see” into “I’ll get the camera out right away!”

…and you have to do the woody woodpecker laugh again! It certainly beats my witchy cackle!

    1. Exactly! I don’t think I realise just how fast I talk until I record myself…I mean, I even get out of breath talking sometimes but I put it down to lack of fitness rather than speed! Thanks for watching 🙂

  2. I’ve been saving this for a kid free moment to watch in peace. 🙂
What a great job! Well done you, I can only imagine the epic task that was editing but you did a fantastic job.
Oh, and you totally have Lara Croft hair, go raid those tombs…

    1. Thanks Clare, pleased you watched and liked it – editing was such a pain though!
If only being Lara Croft was about the hair…I think my body might have something to say about the level of physical activity required, haha!

  3. Haylee. This was epic greatness. I’m in awe of the professional look to your vlog. NY Mom speaking “You HAVE to do more vlogs” I said so. You are cuter than a speckled eared puppy! I think you are more of Emma Woodhouse!! Best vlog ever! XOXOXOXO!!!

    1. Haha, aww thanks Catherine! I’m so glad you liked it (still very unsure about more though!)
But, but… If I’m Emma Woodhouse, doesn’t that make me ‘Clueless’? I’ll take it though, seeing as she’s only 20! 😉

      1. Haha, I’m only kidding! I’m sure I could handle being a superficial socialite in love with Paul Rudd, if it was just for a day, in any case!

  4. This was amaze balls. I love your accent. Also, you ramble as much as me – love it. It’s rude to point your finger at me though lol. I might have to steal your idea and do a similar thing for my third anniversary 🙂 thanks!

    1. Haha, but it was such a mean question! And never mind a third anniversary vlog, I seem to remember challenging you to a response amidst the finger wagging! 😉
Glad you enjoyed it though (and the accent!) – It must be an Aries thing, the waffling! And ta for the reblog, much appreciated 👍🏼

      1. Oh yeah ill do a post about my answer too. Anything to stop getting the waggly finger again. I feel like I need to go sit on the naughty step now lol

  5. Haha! I lovvvvvvvved it! And, of course, this professor watched the whole thing. Not boring at all. Yeah, okay, I may have jinxed you, but still: now you can say you’ve tried black pudding! I, for one, shall never try it, of many courses.

Editing is awful, isn’t it? It’s a pain in the…! And your hair is awesome, so don’t let it vex you.

I always have honey in my tea! *proud* I’m def honorary. And you can’t like vampires. They bite, you know. Plus, Jane Austen is awful. #professorishthoughts

    You gotta do more!!

    1. Hurrah! Glad you liked it and thanks for enduring the whole thing! Editing is horrendous – I shall have to bribe someone to do it for me next time. But more vlogs? I’ve no idea what to do another on and I don’t have the benefit of skills with a guitar like yourself (we’ll not mention the cello, okay?)
Do you seriously have honey in your tea?! Awesome 👏🏼 You can be an honorary whatever you want for that! (Does it make your tea grey?)
Thanks for the hair compliment btw but if you saw how it was levitating towards the ceiling today with the humidity, you may rethink your words!
As for vampires… What can I say? I’m sure every girl has been seduced by one at some point. In fact, I bet Austen would have preferred Pride, Prejudice… And Vampires!
P.S You owe me a black pudding tasting me thinks!

      1. It was so fun! Oh yes. You must, you must! Your accent is so cool, too. You must teach me how to have one like that, please. I was just going to ask you about your cello! And now I’m not allowed. So not fair…but you better still be practicing! You can seriously blog about anything at all!

I do! Always liked it best that way, you know. It actually doesn’t. My tea is always…yellow-ish…yeah, I’m probably doing something wrong.

Hahaha. That’ would’ve been cool, tho! Points for cool hair. Humid here, too. Blah. P&P would be vastly better if there was a vampire that ate Darby! I can dig that. (Oh no, I can’t eat it…I’d die!!)

      2. I’ve had a few requests for more, so we’ll see…
I did think about doing a post on Yorkshire sayings at some point so that can be your first lesson – but I feel it would be a like doing a reverse Eliza Doolittle!
And you won’t die… (Unless you’re allergic to pigs’ blood) Plus, you can always spit it out. So unless it’s because you’re veggie/vegan or on religious grounds, then I feel I suffered, so you should too. (The thought is worse than the reality)

      3. I’ll keep bothering you about it, of course…

Hahahaha! That’s hilarious. But it would be so cool! I bet I’d adopt most of them.

Well, I can’t really refuse it on any of those grounds. You know what! I think I’m saved. Bet you can’t even get it over here! #win

    1. Yay! Thanks for watching Michelle, glad you enjoyed it 😊 That’s why it was so long, too many good questions that I couldn’t answer in a short way!

      1. Are you going to publish it soon?? 😉 By the way, I tried video editing (just some GoPro stuff from a trip) and boy was it hard to learn! Don’t know why, but I just couldn’t seem to have the patience. So, well done to you!

      2. Erm… Maybe not! Perhaps I should delete it in case it resurfaced when I’m rich and famous 😉
It’s so tedious isn’t it? I did have a bit of a head start though I guess – my other half used to do it as a job and I’ve taught it at a very basic level with children. I was too embarrassed to let other half watch though so he just had to shout instructions from the other room if I was having trouble!

      1. I will not pressure you into doing more vlogs, but I want to repeat here something I tweeted you earlier today. My wife thought your vlog style was great. For her acting classes and auditions, she’s had to self-video, and she knows how hard it can be to talk to a camera and really seem like you are communicating with people.

She thought you were very natural and professional.

And she was very entertained about your comments on my Game of Thrones focus. 🙂

      2. Aww Patrick thank you and again big thanks to your wife for the compliment. As I said in the tweet, having to act in front of a class as a teacher possibly helps – that and I talk to myself a lot!! It was difficult to start but I did feel less silly the more I filmed. Maybe I can keep them for special occasions – although I’ve no idea what else I’d do one on.
I’m glad she liked my comments – I wonder if you’d have both found the part I cut where I said your last name in a myriad of ways as entertaining!!

      3. 😀 I did say I was okay to make a mistake because your family all pronounce it differently but in the end I had to cut so much – the directors cut would have been playing until Monday!!
