Product reviews? That’s not something I usually venture into, is it?

However, when the lovely Betty from Beets Blu contacted me and asked if I’d like a set of their smart scales in return for an honest review on Amazon, I was happy to oblige. And whilst I wasn’t obligated to share the review on my blog, I thought I would as I know there are several of you that follow who are currently on a weight loss / health regime, so it may be of interest.

If you’re not, well…scales are always handy to check you won’t be going over your luggage allowance, right? 😉

Sing-a-song of intros, a pocketful of themes

There’s no denying I watch a LOT of television and if you view even a smidgen as much as me, you’ll no doubt recognise some lyrics in the first paragraph from theme tunes.

As an artist, getting your music into a show is an easy way to filter into the ears of a new audience: I’d never heard of Snow Patrol until I saw a trailer for the season two finale of Grey’s Anatomy, featuring ‘Chasing Cars’, but it prompted me to watch the show from the start, buy the SP album, fall in love with Denny and cry enough tears to warrant a second Ark!

Denny, Denny, whatever became of that beautiful soul?

Combine great musical choices with clever, artistic graphics and often I find I look forward to the opening credits just as much as the storyline. So this is my list of fabulous show starters – stick around to find out what my top 5 are and who is in pole position. And no… it’s not Game of Thrones!

It’s here, it’s over, it’ll be back!

Typical northerners, always banging on about the weather. Five and half seasons we’ve listened to the members of House Stark utter their family motto, ‘Winter is Coming’ with more than a hint of urgency that we best all be prepared for an extended cold snap.

Royally Entertained!

Lasers and lightsabers. Horns and Holst. Fireworks and flying saucers. Our journey through space at the Royal Albert Hall was fabulous!

If you didn’t already know, we kicked off our week away with a stopover in London to attend the Space Spectacular concert, performed by the Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra and conducted by Anthony Inglis.

I’d nagged for tickets for my birthday, having wanted to attend a classical concert for a while, and as this featured many of my favourite musical scores with the added bonus of being held in an iconic venue, well…I nagged a lot!

The Hall itself was nothing short of stunning – I’ve obviously seen it plenty of times on TV but that didn’t detract from the grandeur of the place. It’s classically beautiful, just the kind of architecture I love, so it’s no surprise that the design was inspired by Roman amphitheatres.

Valar Baekaaris! – A Munchies Review

Happy Easter Monday Munchies everyone!

I realise I’ve not been doing much baking of late – in fact I’ve done very little since Christmas. We STILL have a small amount of Yuletide treats knocking about the place and what with my birthday last week and Easter dropping off an obligatory delivery of sweet things, I’ve not had a need to add to the stockpile!

So this week, I’d thought I’d do a mini-book review. Fear not, it is most definitely foodie related and caters to both my sweet tooth and my love of a certain TV / book series…

The lovely ladies I work(ed) with know my love of Westeros and along with a garden gnome (sat on the Iron Throne!) and a house sigil bookmark, another of my leaving / birthday gifts was the brilliantly titled Game of Scones: All Men Must Dine!

Packed full of treats and desserts, each recipe is a parody of Game of Thrones in some way: I was over the moon (and my stars…)!

The following are some examples of my favourites, but I’ve purposely not included the actual recipes, for copyright reasons. Also, be warned, there may be some spoilers if you’re not up to date as far as Season 4.
