The Velveteen Blogger

Something a little different today – not really sure where it came from other than the first line came to me last night and I decided to expand on it.

However, I’m no poet and neither is this a portrayal of how I feel (ooh, I hope I haven’t made it seem too gloomy for a Monday!)… but I wonder if some in the virtual world do have these thoughts.

We’re so easily connected these days and yet often further apart than ever. Anyway, as always, I’d love to hear your comments. ๐Ÿ™‚

Do I exist as merely light from your screen?

As words on a page, a face never seen?

Do you set aside times to allow me to speak?

Neglected when busy or silenced all week?

Do you ever consider what fills up my day,

Beyond the image I like to portray?

Do you imagine my lifestyle, my smiles and my tears?

Is that of no interest, unless posted here?

Do I only inhabit the bytes on your cell,

Or have I formed memories and stories to tell?

Does attention come only if reminders are sent?

Would you bother to ask me how last weekend went?

Do you see things Iโ€™d like, that youโ€™re eager to share?

Or am I not real, so thereโ€™s no need to care?

Do you feel weโ€™re connected, can I call you my friend?

Or is life force extinguished once unplugged, yet again?

The Celine Dion Diagnosis

The Celine Dion Diagnosis

As some of you know, I’ve had a little health scare this week. Sudden, severe arm pain, chest pains / tightness, breathlessness and nausea plus an overall feeling of being unwell, suggested I was having a mild heart attack. What? I’m not old enough to have a heart attack am I? It most definitely isn’t on my list of achievements to unlock before I turned 40…

Cue internal panic, displayed in that typically British, stiff upper lip way – ignore it and everything will be fine. Except I began to feel worse and S decided that me Googling a diagnosis was helping nobody’s sanity, so eventually convinced me to go to A&E.

Virtually a social butterfly: Meet and Greet round-up.

Happy weekend everyone!

Just a quick note to let you know that my monthly, foodie meet and greet, Munchie Tea Party will be happening this Monday (26th October). It’s a round-up of all my favourite recipes, collected from other bloggers, over the past month. This month, there is a topically spooky taste to most of the menu – just in time for you to learn some tricks to whizz up some treats!

It doesn’t matter if you’re not a food blogger, I encourage you to check out the links and make connections with the recipe originators. You can also leave links to your own recipes, a specific post or simply to your blog’s main page in the comments – just please keep it clean so that everyone can enjoy. ๐Ÿ™‚

Elsewhere in my little corner of the blogging community, Michael, of Michael’s Origins has created a directory that lists other blogs, from a very diverse group, in one easy to find section. I’ve seen a huge increase in my follows and overall stats since he launched it (thanks to everyone who’s new to Aloada Bobbins!) so it’s a great way to network. Check out the Follow to Follow link here.

Danny, of Dream Big, Dream Often is hosting his fortnightly Meet and Greet that is incredibly successful for connecting new (and seasoned) bloggers. Leave a link, reblog the post and get chatting! It runs until Sunday night, but if you miss it this time, remember to look out for it again in two weeks.

Finally, Jason, the Opinionated Man living in a Harsh Reality has started a new feature of blog reviews. Giving a super helpful synopsis of each site, it helps you network with a little more background knowledge of the entire blog’s theme. He may even be nice enough to review your blog, if feedback is what you’re looking for.

So remember to check back on Monday for the Munchie Tea Party but until then, have a happy networking weekend! ๐Ÿ™‚

It’s like a Soul II Soul lyric…Time to take care of business!

It’s like a Soul II Soul lyric…Time to take care of business!

Hi everyone! So we’ve returned from our little trundle around Ireland – alas, no Jon Snows were captured ๐Ÿ˜ฆ However, it was a nice little trip away and there will be future posts about our adventures once I’ve organised the truck load of photos I took!

Now though, it’s back to life, reality and the grim realisation there’s only one week left of summer holidays – it’s as if the extra week we were graced with this year somehow sped time up more than normal (although I’m sure all school workers believe in this time bending magic, whilst parents feel the world has slowed to a lethargic crawl!)

Since returning, I’ve been busy and created a little Facebook page for the blog, mainly because friends were asking for links and this seemed the best solution, whilst still keeping my personal Facebook private. You can like the page by visiting here – as always it’ll be super to have you on board. ๐Ÿ™‚

The day we left for our travels I was also nominated for not one, but two awards! I’m incredibly flattered to have been considered for these, so firstly let me say a huge thank you to Megan from The MomHood for my Liebster Award – please stop by her site, it’s full of lovely photos and inspirational quotes. Plus, she’s been kind enough to participate in my Rainbowfication challenge! Also, massive thanks for my Versatile Blogger Award from Beauty by Elyse – if you want some great beauty tips then her site has loads to offer…or just go check out her amazing eyelashes (only slightly jealous honest…!)

Awards are fabulous for promoting bloggers and who doesn’t like receiving praise? I also understand though that many find them a little time consuming or don’t enjoy the ‘chain blog’ nature of them. Therefore, I’ve decided to cheat / break the rules a little for my responses. Firstly, I’ve chosen a selection of my favourite questions from each lovely lady to answer. Secondly, I’m not so much nominating as drawing your attention to some awesome blogs. Each person I’ve chosen I enjoy reading on a regular basis – if any of them would like participate in either (or both!) award, then super, but I understand they may also have already been nominated and won’t want to repeat it. Please check them out though and show them some love. ๐Ÿ™‚
