ALGARVE!
The southernmost region of continental Portugal, the Algarve has been popular with British tourists for years and we are lucky enough to have (through family) the use of a villa there in a small town called Olhos de Agua.
Very close to the resort of Albufeira, this sleepier area is within a few minutes walk of some beautiful beaches which are relatively empty, even in peak season, where you can watch fishermen bring in their catch.
I’m not one for large resorts and there are parts of Albufeira we prefer to stay away from but the Old Town has family restaurants and cafes around a central square, that is backed by traditional style architecture and locals going about their business. A few minutes walk between buildings and it’s easy to find peace and quiet.
They do have an escalator to help with those steep steps though!
The images seen here are a combination of some of my favorites from visits over the last few years, our most recent last week. I hope they brighten your day, wherever you are! 🙂

Those resorts would be great if it wasn’t for the tourists! This looks like a lovely place to go local.

Haha, I agree! To be fair, it’s only in the middle of August that it becomes really unbearable with crowds. The rest of the time it’s easy to avoid them if you know where you’re going.

Thanks for sharing! I went to the Algarve when I was a kid with my family and have always wanted to go back. Thanks for helping me explore via your photos. 🙂

You’re welcome! It’s a lovely area of the globe and yet probably not somewhere I would have visited if it wasn’t for my other half’s family spending a good part of the year there 🙂

I’m still trying to catch up with everything I had to leave behind during April’s A to Z Challenge and the show I was working on. lol. Now it’s just regular work and keeping up with Elliot’s Adventures — which is mostly prescheduled at this point. Whew!

It’s great to be busy though! I will have to start at the beginning with Elliot. I missed too many but have it mentally logged to read through.
