Join the Moodle Army!

Wednesday’s are usually reserved for photography but today, I bring you a different type of creativity…

Doodle: A little drawing.

Moodle: A drawing to change your mood.

Moodle Army: A group of people who draw their way to happiness!

Okay, so what am I on about, other than messing around with words?

Well, my new role at school is Behaviour and Emotional Welfare Support – essentially I’m responsible for promoting good mental health strategies with the children…and (unfortunately) dealing with their fallout when everything gets a bit too much for them.

But baby steps…they need to be taught the tools to cope first!

Part of my role is to provide lunchtime activities for those needing somewhere quieter than the crazy world of ‘Playground Land’ and here we often use drawing therapy. It’s long been considered therapeutic for stress relief, with the recent soar in adult colouring books confirming this.

At the same time, we also indulge in a little origami – although I had to invest in a book…there are only so many fortune tellers and paper hats you can make before exhausting your origami street cred!

However, whilst replenishing stocks at the weekend I came across these books, which are my new favourite find of the week!

There appear to be only three in the series but inside is a treasure trove of ideas and part completed doodles to finish, all with positive comments attached and ways to help you alleviate stress and bring happiness.

So I want to start a thing. A movement, in fact, and I’d like you to join me for the ride. Put simply, I want to recruit you lovely readers for my MOODLE ARMY!

Let’s face it, everyone can always benefit from a little extra positivity in their lives and there are many people the world over who need it more than ever right now. Therefore, I thought it might be fun to set a theme or task each week, taking inspiration from the books and you then share your moodle doodle interpretations with the blogosphere.

I know it will take a while to get the ball rolling but would love this to become a regular thing. And don’t worry, it doesn’t need to be a masterpiece. In fact the more scribble-y and doodle-y, the better. Most 5 year olds luckily don’t know the meaning of stress – so if you draw like one, it might get rid of yours!

To take part, you can create a blog post of your own and link back to the weekly challenge or you can email your doodles / creations to aloadabobbins@gmail.com (just remember to put a link to your blog so I can credit your artwork!)

I’ll then display them in a Tony Hart style gallery (Brits over the age of 30 should remember his teatime, artistic treats on kids TV!)

But a movement doesn’t work without people behind it, does it? So please join in!

The theme for week one is:

LOOK AT THINGS FROM A DIFFERENT PERSPECTIVE – draw the upside down!

The book suggests bending over to see things differently but obvs use your own judgement on safety please! Oh, and let’s keep things clean… 😉

And fans of Stranger Things – well you may interpret it altogether differently!

The challenge will run until 6pm GMT on Monday 30th January 2017. Doodles will be displayed the following Tuesday or Wednesday with a new challenge.

There’s no prize, just the joy of spreading happiness and relieving stress with your Moodle!

Oh, and if you want the books themselves, they’re available from Amazon (among other places). And double oh…please share, even if you don’t want to moodle, others might!

Looking forward to what you come up with! 😀

  1. A moodle army! Such a fab idea! I really think my kids will love this too… (and of course, I’d totally get in on the action too!)

In my day… (I’ve just turned 30) we had a cheery fella called Neil Buchanan! Remember him? A show called Art Attach…catchy themetune, too!

    1. Amanda! You fell in my spam! Apologies for only just dredging you out. And yes, Neil Buchanan’s massive Art Attacks were legendary. We may or may not have tried to recreate them by completely rearranging classroom furniture…

  2. Aww I’m not playing. I just tried to draw a picture, had the idea and everything but my drawing was total rubbish cos I have never been able to draw. Never really been one for doodling either come to think of it. Love to admire other people’s drawings tho’. The blog Becky Says Things was always graphically illustrated with Stickman, the pictures used to make me laugh more than the words sometimes. I do miss Becky saying things.

    1. Oh no! I don’t want to add to people’s stress! Whilst I completely understand if you don’t want to join in, I’m sure it’s not as bad as you think – and you’ve always got until next week to come up with another 😉 I’ve not heard of that blog, I do enjoy ones with authors talented enough to illustrate as well though.

      1. Haha, I must admit I was trying to draw on an app on my tablet because I was too lazy to go and hunt down paper and pencil but I never had much patience with drawing even at school. I went over to Becky’s blog after I commented and she had actually posted a couple of weeks ago. A review of 2016.

    1. Yay! Welcome to the army 👏🏼 Why don’t I see your posts anymore? Honestly thought you were reading, rather than writing blogs. Used to get them via email and in reader but nothing now 😦

      1. No idea – I checked and you’re still following me and I’m definitely still blogging – had a quiet October and November but since late December I’ve been firing on all cylinders – I had noticed you hadn’t visited in a while but I’m too polite to say anything…

      2. Wish you had! But I know what you mean, I notice people disappear and just assume they’ve had enough of me! When I’m near my laptop, I’ll unfollow and follow again. Maybe that will sort things out. But then WordPress has been sketchy for a while. Makes me wonder how many other people I follow who I never see 😕

      3. Well I hope you can resolve it but I’m scanning through all my settings to see if it’s something I’ve done. Cos now I think about it there’s a few people who used to comment a lot that have completely disappeared. I don’t know what it says about my self esteem that I just accepted it – that’s a can of worms best left unopened…

      1. To be fair, I’ve never had it. But it’s up there with caviar and sheep’s eyeballs as what not to try at a dinner party. I realise this is an insult to your ancestry but… just nope.

    1. They’re very popular with the children. Just a warning, they’re geared towards adults – nothing untoward but some not necessarily child centred, such as one with shopping bags for retail therapy etc. And another that asks you to doodle a face of someone you dislike then give the page a large slap! I personally found the last one hilarious but won’t be sharing that at school!!

      1. I’m quite lax on what the kids are exposed to, I’d rather they learn to self govern with us around to support. She’d totally be drawing her class TA. 🙊🙊

  3. Oooh what fun – I will see what I can do 🙂 I can proudly say that I had a painting displayed in Tony Hart’s famous gallery back in the day – it was my proudest moment ever! It was of the ugly duckling. Because you had to send in the actual art work, I never saw it again which was a shame. I wonder what they did with all the stuff that got sent in? Got a horrible feeling they might have burnt it or something… 😮

    1. That’s awesome! I never dared to send anything in, best I did was win a Care Bear magazine colouring comp. But definitely not as prestigious! 👏🏼 They must have a BBC back office where it’s all archived. Surely they can’t be so cruel to burn masterpieces by tiddlypeeps…
