Hello everyone – firstly, a little business to attend to. Last week, I hosted a giveaway to mark my six month blogoversary and to give a little gift of thanks to my wonderful readers.
I’m pleased to announce that after my very technical, randomising robot (my other half, S) picked a name out of a hat, the 2016 Aloada Bobbins calendar shall be heading its way to Steve from SteveSays / Talk About Pop Music. Congratulations! 🙂
This week’s Wednesday Lensday is a bringer of light. S first introduced me to the craft of light painting a couple of years ago – essentially using a long exposure to capture a light source ‘painting’ a picture against a back drop. Think ‘writing your name with sparklers’ then add a little flair and creativity!
There are some amazing examples of light photographers out there (like the one above) but sadly, I’ve yet to accomplish their outstanding images. Seriously, just Google ‘light painting photography’ and be amazed and inspired!
However, my first attempts did force me to get over my fear of using the manual mode and learn a little more about the tools of the trade. Even if there will soon be an app for that!
It also led me to discover other artistic variations with photography, including Bokeh – the blurring of light and using stencils to cover the lens and to alter the shape.
So, as it the season of pretty lights everywhere and in response to Megan’s Prompt Stomp theme, here is a little collection of luminary images. Time to shine!

Thanks Santa! In return I will give you and your followers a free entry into my “people’s playlist” http://talkaboutpopmusic.net/2015/11/29/update-talkaboutpopmusic-the-peoples-playlist-5/. It’s free anyway I hear you say? Yeah, but still…

Great idea… I’ve been listening to Classic FM a lot (shush, I love it!) so will need to find something more ‘pop music’ related to add. Or Christmassy!

Or combine them with a song such as bells of the carol or whatever that song from home alone is called. Carol of the bells? You know?

I do know it and great suggestion as it reminded me of my favourite version of it, which you’ll probably hate, haha!
I don’t just listen to classical!

Thank you and same to you! I saw the lamp you shared earlier in the week – it was wonderful too, seems very Art Deco. 🙂

Thank you! And yes, I amazed myself for sticking to it! Ironic then that I’ve just posted I’m having a break for Christmas! It is only a break mind you, I’m too addicted to give it all up!

It is good to take breaks , and anyways this is a season so full , it is no good running around like a be-headed chicken trying to take it all in , and not being able to fully enjoy what is special about it 😉
Have a great time , and come back refreshed

Thanks Michelle 🙂 and you should! I’m not sure which I’d like to do more of, the painting or bokeh. Both create such great effects.

Lovely pictures Haylee. I have changed my wallpaper at work to seasonal lighting, it is beautiful too, there is something soothing about lights at this time of year xx

Thanks Lisa! One of my favourite things is to sit and look at my tree in the dark – probably one of the reasons I love my lamp (from the pictures) so much. 🙂

The two photos with the red blurry light reminds me of the movie ‘Back To The Future’, haha. Nice entry for Prompt Storm.

Thanks Professor! I still need to perfect them but they’re a load of fun. At least if I’m out of focus I can use the excuse it was on purpose!

Yes! You can do exactly that. I make that excuse all the time, since I’m a horrible photo dude.

I’m sure you’re not… Perhaps you should take on a challenge that doesn’t involve wielding katana me for once!

My pleasure, thanks for hosting! You really should look at experimenting with the idea – it’s definitely something I want to do more of and might make me get to grips with something other than pointing and shooting!
