Wednesday Lensday: Headshots of a Skeksis

This is the last of my photography posts with a link to Halloween – a little collection of a skull from various angles. The subject matter may seem macabre: indeed in supernatural folklore, the ram or goat is often used to depict the Devil himself.

However, mine is a very friendly skull and I love it (did I ever mention how odd I am?) From the textures found on its single, remaining horn to the delicate filigree patterns on the inner structure, it’s fascinating to look at. I never knew that bones could be so detailed.

As you know, I normally prefer monochrome images but when I was editing these, I thought some lost their clarity when drained of colour, so I’ve included both images and would love to know which you prefer. The first image below shows the skull upside down, yet it reminds me of the villains from A Dark Crystal – the Skesis. Granted, they’re more like vultures but hopefully you see the resemblance! The second, again taken from below, I submitted as my entry to Leanne Cole’s Monochrome Madness. Please check out the post – there are some outstanding entries included each week.

I hope you enjoy seeing inside ‘my’ head – it should be a lot easier to understand and appreciate than what goes on in my own skull anyway!

Ooh, as a parting note, shall I leave you with the only sound ever needed to reference the Dark Crystal? HmMmm? 😉
